Victoria, Australia: Report on Oct. 11th hearing involving Steven Unthank
by AndersonsInfo invictoria, australia: report on oct. 11th hearing involving steven unthank.
(this report is from an anonymous xjw who attended the hearing.
i had no plans to turn up to the court hearing as an observer, as in my experience, it can take several hearings and a number of months before any court case gets rolling.

Truthlover: "That was off the platform.. and I have never heard that before in all my time .." That's how I felt too. I can't remember anything so focused (pushy).
Poppers: "A year's salary" - that's what he said.
Last year, the CO in the private meeting mentioned something similar. It was his last visit, so of course he was talking about the next CO-not himself! He said to "remember to give a "small cash gift to the next CO. CO's are paid very little. $120[something like that]. How much could you do on $120, a month? It disappears fast brothers." (In all honesty, from what I see - despite green handshakes, it's a tough life on the road. They're being exploited like everyone else in the WT. So I do have some pity for the sincere ones.) And I never had heard that before.
Also, maybe the WT wants to introduce a tithing mind-set. The CO said that "it doesn't have to be a lot. Just try to be consistent. Even regular small amounts help." So many points - I can't remember them all. But, yes, that was the whole talk. Study, service, meetings - the typical talking points were nonexistent.
A tangent- and I would love to hear opinions: Last year's CO had a talk on debt (some analogy I can't remember.) He kept pronouncing the "d" in "debt" and "debtor." Sounded really weird and annoying. He can't possible not know how to pronounce such a common word. I felt it was manipulative in some way. Maybe to seem unlettered? "See how far I got without a formal education" ?

So, we had our new CO (who actually seemed nice and somewhat personable in his own way.)
He gave a talk titled something like "Do we sacrifice to Jehovah?"(can't remember the exact title.) I expected the usual "Go out in Service. Pioneer, etc....."
He did touch on those subjects briefly. Very Briefly. However the majority of the talk was on real-estate and money:
"We need young brothers who are handy to work on the Walkill project. You'll have so much fun, too!"
"Can you volunteer to work on the RBC - to advance Kingdom interests?"
"There was a country that didn't have the NWT translation in their language. And the brothers were so poor that the whole congregation had only 1 bible. It cost the equivalent of a year's salary. Of course the translation committee got to work. And at the District convention a member of the GB introduced the the NWT in their language. He mentioned that all would get a copy. Brothers were crying out of joy. Even the GB brother got choked up. Brothers never under estimate what our contributions can accomplish in less-developed countries."
"At Family Worship (tm) night, some families have decided to donate a certain amount to the World Wide Work (tm)"
This one was particulary distasteful:
"The branch received a letter: ' Dear Brothers, I recently received an inheritance. Since my needs are small. And my wants even smaller. Please accept this amount [as a donation]"
"Little [Jimmy] wrote a letter sating he saved up this money and wanted to help in buying a printing press"
"Brothers, the cose of ink and paper continues to climb."
And so it went on. And on. And on. The whole talk presented very little information, nothing of any "spiritual" content. Much more different and focused that what I remember from any previous visit.
BTW, I got the idea for this thread from BroMac's comment on another thread. It was the same story in my cong:
"
the new CO was round the other week. at the tues night meeting his first talk was nothing more than give us your money... the whole thing give give give. even mentioned how some kids decided in their family worship to give money from their savings towards the new print presses. hey why not Give of your time to the rbc? they have outlines from hq for the week.

Is this a rumor or a reverse-rumor or maybe it's true? This is what I heard from friends who came back from a visit the Colorado area.
They went to congregation meetings during their visit. They got to talking to the locals about John Denver. Based on their conversations, witnesses have had it all wrong.
John Denver used to hire witnesses all the time - since they proved to be so trustworthy. He liked witnesses.
During his concerts, he used to say (out of considerateness) that he was going to play something patriotic in order to give them a chance to leave. He was being respectful of their beliefs.

Forgot about the UN story, ChristAlone...Good thread. I really believed that one, too. (Embarassing)
So this man meets this sister. He falls in love. She tells him that he must be a JW. So he studies and progresses to the point where he is in the minstry.
One Saturday morning, the two were working together in the territory. All of a sudden, in between houses, the sister says, "I'm so sick of doing this." And she throws her bookbag in a sidewalk ditch. The man says, "I thought you'd never come around" And he does the same.
The sister says - "You failed my test. I wanted to know if you sincerely loved Jehovah. Or were doing this just for me." The two split up immediatey.

There's gotta be another faction in the Writing Department, either that or they can't see the irony.
by Theocratic Sedition inthe past two week's worth of wt studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature.
yesterday was too much, i felt at least.
either there's another faction within the writing department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.. for instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.. 5. unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles.

(Welcome Eazy!)
I don't think they can see the irony. I used to pity "worldly" people becasue they were enslaved and I was "free."

Absalom prefigured young JWs who fist bump, play video games, and take pictures of themselves with the opposite sex
by JimmyPage injehovah's witnesses top the list in not being able to hold on to their younger members.
so what do they do to combat this?
do they go out of their way to change things to keep the next generation, their only real hope of long run survival?

I could overhear some teens and kids in my hall mocking this picture. Good to see....The WT wants you to feel guilty about being normal.

I work in a metropolitan area. I'll never forget the scene of 1000's of people emptying out all at once from all the buildings nearby.
(I'm embarassed to say.) I was comforted, "knowing" that surely "The End" was near and this all fit into "Prophecy". At the same time, it was so unnerving to be paranoid around public transit and to see the fear in everyone's eyes.
It is sad, the lives that were cut short.
